TASC Program Information for Advisers
For an Eberly student's appeal to take a 100-level CHEM or MATH course for a third time to be approved, they must be enrolled in the TASC program. Advisers will begin this process by meeting with the students and working through the Third Attempt Appeal Form with them.
During this meeting, the following is also highly recommended:
- Assist the student in locating the Qualtrics Form they will need to submit to enroll in the TASC Program.
- Prepare the student to hear from the STEM Learning Center Coordinator regarding mandatory success coaching and the learning consultation requirements of the program.
- With enrollment in the TASC program being a condition of the third attempt appeal’s approval, students will be required to participate.
- Failure to participate in the program once enrolled will prevent the approval of any future attempt appeals.
- Speak with the student to prepare a parallel plan, should the third attempt at this course be unsuccessful.
Advisers can expect to hear from the STEM Learning Center Coordinator at the beginning of the semester in which the student has their first Success Coaching session. For this, and all meetings, notes will be kept in Navigate by the STEM Learning Center Coordinator so that advisors can view student progress. The three required meetings are strategically placed at (1) the beginning of the semester, (2) directly after midterms, and (3) before the last day to withdraw from a course.
At the end of the semester, a summary of suggested interventions, learning consultation visits, and actions the student has completed to be successful will be placed as a final report in Navigate and emailed to the adviser. This report and the information within will be considered if the student should elect to appeal for a fourth attempt at the course in the future.
Third Attempt Appeal Conditions Common Language:
“[Student] will participate in three success coaching meetings with the STEM Learning Center Coordinator. While three meetings are mandatory, the student will have the opportunity to meet with the STEM Learning Center Coordinator more times if needed. These meetings will focus on improving skills to aid in the student’s success within their third attempt and in general.”
